Crazy Quacks

After a couple of weeks off, these birds are ready to be documented again :)  These birds are getting big!  I think they're pretty much considered full grown fowl at this point.

Adult Quacks

They've permanently moved outside and are loving it.  They are their own little herd of ducks and aren't fans of being caught, held, handled, etc, but they tolerate when we catch them.  I'm making an effort to get in there with them so that they don't become straight wild, even though I know they'd prefer to be free ducks.  Fun fact....Pekin ducks live much longer in captivity, an average of about 15 years, whereas wild ducks tend to only live around 3-4 years.  Pekins require a more balanced diet of feed, and can't quite make it out on an open pond on the random scraps and corn that passerby's throw them.

Duck, Duck, Duck......Goose!

Please leave us alone!!

Despite not being overly friendly, these quackers are still pretty cool.  They're still clumsy and step on their own feet.  When you pick them up they thrash around as if they're swimming....it's hilarious.  They still do a lot of preening, and although all of their adult feathers appear to have grown in, they seem to be going through a minor molt.

QUACK

Now that they're considered adult ducks, they've gotten their first real taste of the water and they're LOVING IT!

Loving their personal "pond"

"Come on in guys...the water's fine!"

Taking a dip

 Swamping for bugs....
